I was listening to Jerry Jeff Walker recently. As one often does, he's just got a great bunch of songs. This one feels good.

Dr. Dundiff doing some great sampling on this one. Very soulful from Otis Junior.

When I was young I thought this song was wonderful, about forgiving people and moving on. I'm not really sure, only Don Henley knows what he wrote. He his an old man now. It sounds about him and his former wife but I think it means more.

Re: Stuff
So Van Zandt wrote this song ? I had no idea. Props to him. I think willy and friends improved it but give total credit to the guy who wrote and recorded it. I prefer links.

Well, yesterday we made it to the Old Quarter in Galveston, where Towns Van Zandt made his famous live recording.YBBR wrote: ↑Tue Jul 03, 2018 9:48 pm

Hell of a song.
I’m not lying when I say it was a spiritual experience. Charles Bryant, another solo acoustic country guy from Houston played and his young daughter opened.
She, in particular, was amazing. Basically a child prodigy. Her lyrics were astounding. “Driving around in my car, my heart an open container”. When I heard that my jaw hit the floor. And what I voice. It seemed like her dad was protective of her. Understandable since she’s so young and already has that star quality.
Anyway, the bar itself was just great. Tiny. Family-like. Very chill peacenik vibe. People talked in whispers and didn’t talk at all when people were performing—unless the performer was interacting with the crowd. No cover songs are allowed. There’s a sign that said so. Places like this renew my faith in the art of music.
Here’s that guy’s daughter playing Nothing. As far as I could tell, this is the only music she had online. Please be respectful. Her voice has a rasp here but last night it was clear as a bell. Her songs were ghostly, from more emo-y rocky stuff to finger picking. Sometimes in the same song.

They certainly do. Old Quarter had a lot of Van Zandt-related art up, as well as related to other singer-songwriters. It’s nice to see traditionalism is still highly-valued and alive. I would recommend anyone visit the Old Quarter when in Galveston. It’ll make you feel good.weimy froob wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 11:20 am

Not sure. It was taken off his LP, Road Songs. I believe the entire album is covers songs.thinktank wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2019 1:22 pmWas this recorded at the Old Quarter too? Maybe so. How bout them Rolling Stones? Keith can do anything. Classic.Keith_Morrison wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 2:13 pm

Why do I first hit up music chat upon logging in? Well....a Townes Van Zant dominates thread is a great answer. For those that don’t know his stuff, please do yourself a favor and spend a little time with him. While tormented and self defeating, he was also amazing. Thank you for the original post...gone but not forgotten.
