I read Escape From Freedom, Man for Himself: An Inquiry into the Psychology of Ethics, The Art of Loving, and The Sane Society.

In Escape From Freedom, he argues that, when given complete freedom (that is, the freedom to think the way you want to think and be the person you want to be), most people will naturally retreat into some form of authoritarian system.
