It would be nice one year to have all 13 guys available as well.

18-19 two guys sitting out due to transfers
17-18 Curry out for season/Stockman out for transfer
16-17 Fitzgerald tore is ACL/I think they had Darin Haugh on scholarship because Buggs left and they didn't fill his spot
15-16 Lynch/Fitzgerald out for transfer

So that's two unused scholarships essentially the last four years.

It seems like Pitino has wasted a lot of scholarship years too. 2 years on Stockman, horrific players like Diedjou and Konate, etc...

A full and competitive roster would be great.
Let's get Tropical

I'd rather have 2 guys redshirting every year, but those are days gone by.

Ideally Sam Freeman redshirts next year...

Do you think we're still the favorites for Demir? Any word on Kareem South or Donnell Gresham JR. lately?

All quiet. Evan Daniels said Gophers are in a good spot though for Demir.

Doogie got Alihan Demir on his recent podcast. Very interesting interview. Minnesota sounds like they're in a great spot with him.

Go back there and seal the deal after he visits K State.

Minnesota signs German forward Isaiah Ihnen

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota has signed Isaiah Ihnen, a 6-foot-9 forward from Germany, to a national letter of intent.

The Gophers on Wednesday announced the addition of Ihnen to their 2019 recruiting class, joining guard Tre' Williams and center Sam Freeman. Guards Marcus Carr and Payton Willis, both transfers who sat out last season, also will join the team on the court for the first time this fall.

Ihnen played this past season for the International Basketball Academy Munich team, averaging 13.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 54.3 percent from the field.

Kansas State is losing their top three guys from last year. In Doogies podcast, Alihan says multiple times how he wants to make the NCAA tournament. If the choices are Minnesota or Kansas State, Minnesota has to be the leader.

I'd be surprised if Minnesota doesn't get him at this point. Would be a good pickup for them, a stopgap guy from Murphy to Demir to Dawson Garcia!?

Unless something unexpected a starting 5 of: Oturu, Demir, Coffey, Gabe and Carr with good depth is a deep run NCAA team.

Yeah, I like this squad. The only need then IMO is a grad transfer guard (point or combo). If they can get that...

Oturu/Curry
Demir/Oturu
Coffey/Hurt
Kalscheur/Willis
Carr/Grad transfer

Three freshmen behind them. Freeman and Ihnen will probably be development guys but Tre should be able to contribute if needed too. He might steal Hurt's minutes of course.

Demir will be making his decision within the next 24 hours according to Ryan James. MN looks like they're in a good spot though we also thought that with Grant Sherfield so we shall see. I expect him to be a Gopher though.

Thanks for the update, much appreciated. He would be a big pick-up. I'm pretty confident considering Pitino is reportedly visiting him today and he's deciding soon.

Hopefully Kareem South is next.

Last I saw about Kareem (via Ryan) was less optimistic than last week. He just said there was a lot of layers there. Perhaps South wants to start (I'm speculating) and be guaranteed heavy minutes? Like I've said, I think it's important they get a grad transfer guard but not necessarily one that needs to play 20-25 minutes. Now if Coffey is out, you're looking for best possible grad transfer guard or wing immediately.

After missing out on Sherfield, Pitino rebounded well(imho) with Ihnen and now possibly Demir. Lots of folks really concerned about spring recruiting, myself included, but I’ve stepped back from the ledge.

I was on ledge as well. Still not clear of the woods even if they sign Demir. The 2020 group is key to his longevity here at Minnesota. Sign, 2 of the 5 guys between: Suggs, Garcia, Dainja, Carlson, Walton and were golden.

Yeah, the 2020 class is going to be the most telling. They're on pace for 3-4 scholarships, if you can't keep some of the kids home... need a change.

2020: Suggs, Garcia, Carlson, Dainja, Walton, Crowl, Hadley
2021: Holmgren, Brown, Thompson
2022: Aligbe, Holloman, Heide

His recruitment was kind of strange. At one point, he listed Minnesota and UNLV as the schools recruiting him the hardest and then all of sudden we didn't hear anything about him for months. His game reminds me of Isaiah Washington a little bit.
