Wisconsin's timing was everything I suppose.

I saw video of Crowl at Wisconsin's camp... guy was dropping threes nonstop. I'm surprised Wisconsin didn't offer on the spot. Maybe he should go to Iowa now.

Wisconsin fans thought they should have offered sooner. Word is Minnesota is the leader right now.

He would have committed to Pitino when he went with his parents to the U of M campus last month. Pitino didn't offer. I said it was dumb then and it looks dumb now. I saw him play against Ben Carlson in the state tourney and knew there was zero question he was a high major big.

Sounds similar to Nate Reuvers. Thoughts on the comparison?

Yeah, I think that is fair. I thought Reuvers was a bit more talented in HS, seemed like he had more offensive firepower, played with more emotion. Crowl is pretty smooth though, has a decent handle.

Ugh, this feels like another strikeout MN class for Pitino.

One dilemma right now if the Madsen brothers. Seems like Ryan James is making it fairly clear they want to go to school together next year. So do you offer Mason who is borderline "mid major/high major" and maybe not Pitino's ideal combo guard? I haven't seen much video of him, a little bit but not a ton. Great shooter. This is the problem when you take the freshman guard from Florida which takes one of your four scholarships for next year. You wanted four! The Madsen brothers + Crowl + someone else would be a solid class. I think they still are in it with Garcia and Walton, they're still after Jahari Long and Jamal Mashburn Jr for out of state guards. They've offered several front court out of state guys now too. Ben Carlson seems to be on the radar as well but I've long figured he'd go elsewhere.

I would offer Mason Madsen at this point if the only thing holding you back if you're nervous about going down to one scholarship the rest of the way. Suggs is going to Gonzaga, you have Kalscheur/Carr in place for the next three years.

I think landing Crowl is the best you can hope for locally. Carlson and Suggs are gone for sure. I don't think Garcia will stick around maybe Kansas. Walton is the wild card, before blowing up he was a guy who probably would have committed, now not sure.

Latest word on Crowl is he's focusing on Iowa or Wisconsin. Apparently things didn't go well after his meeting with Pitino on campus where he was expecting an offer. Other high major teams in the big 12 have reached out but it looks like he's going to stay somewhat local but not with MN. Interesting development.... classic Richard Pitino recruiting at this point too. Looking more and more like local kids feel zero desire to stay home with Pitino in place. He hasn't landed a local recruit since Ben Johnson left.

I doubt we land any top in-state recruit. I've had that feel for a while, Crowl going to Iowa will be a gut punch. I think Wisconsin is full or close to full, not sure they have room for Crowl. Anyway, I've never felt like we were "in" on Garcia or Carlson, other than lip-service.

Carlson is a nice kid, will always say nice things about MN. It's been Stanford or Xavier for awhile.

Garcia continues to be wide open.

Doesn't seem like Pitino is close to offering Mason Madsen so that's probably your only shot at getting Gabe Madsen.

I do think they will continue to stay in on Kerwin Walton. Same deal with Garcia I guess until you see where he visits.

Jamal Mashburn Jr is a top target and they'll have an official visit with DJ Gordon in early October I think.

Pitino's lack of recruiting success in MN will cost him his job. I've said it a million times and will continue to say it. It's just irresponsible recruiting to have so many high major players in the metro and have them consistently be offered first by other programs.

Murphy, Mason and Coffey were not supposed to be here. If you take those three and replace them, any chance Pitino still has the job? But yeah, this is why I was open to a coaching change. Can you imagine the program momentum had Eric Musselman landed here? He would have been all over these 2020 kids.

Pitino seems like a good dude, honestly. He would be a better fit coaching at some ivy league school with his lais·sez-faire recruiting style. I'm starting to think he will strike out with this 2020 class.

That's what so perplexing to me about Pitino. He truly seems like a good dude that's down to earth. How can he so badly struggle with in-state recruiting? What's the problem here, is it really an effort thing? If so, alarming.

I think he has a more national approach. Great if we can get a few local guys to stay but the focus seems to be more national. Also, the local reputation just kills the gophers, growing up here and knowing the poor track record works against him I think.
