This will be the biggest collapse in MLB history, if they lose the division. No team has coughed up that big of a lead when having a double digit lead, on the division, after June 1st. The 1951 Dodgers was not a collapse. That was a case of a Giants team completely playing out of their minds. There is nothing you can do when a team goes 37-7 with a 16 game winning streak to end the season.

the 1978 yankees ran down the red sox and boston actually rallied to force the playoff game. i think sports illustrated called it the "boston massacre" when NY came into town and put a whooping on the home town team-outscoring them by over 20 runs in sweeping them in a four game series in august if i'm remembering right. i was pulling for the bosox that year-so i remember it fairly well.

the 1964 phillies collapse is what i think is the ultimate one. kept former twins manager gene mauch from what would have been his only world series appearance. that one haunted him for the rest of his life-as it should have if baseball was your life.

I agree with that. 85-90 wins is what I expect at this point. Which is better than what I predicted at the start of the season. The reason why I'm so pissed is the expectations changed for me after the historic start. They had a real shot at doing something special this year. Dream dead.

I guess for me it has been a disappointing stretch obviously, but we're playing a tougher part of the schedule with some injuries, Indians have been on fire, and the Twins can start raking again for a few months for all I know. I'm more worried about the Falvine not being aggressive now because of the poor timing of this slump. This is actually when you fuel the fire!
