Kirby Puckett

Post by Hornets »

Time flies by....a 22 year old Gus Munger remembers the debut of Kirby Puckett and the incredible impact he had on our Twins. In my mind he is hands down the all time MVP of this franchise and it's not even close. Sad to think that many of you rubes never got to see him in action.....he was one of a kind. So on this cold, damp night, let's pay tribute to the greatest Twin of all....Kirby Puckett!

I feel his off the field bullshit is really affecting his legacy. It’s sad to think about.

Regardless, top 3 Twin all time.

Yup.......his quote "You guys should jump on my back tonight. I'm going to carry us.'” was the best...........and he went out the worst.

I believe the old saying is "you never want to meet your hero's because they will disappoint you." On the field, the best Twin. Off the field, who really knows.

It sucks when you hear about childhood hero's turning out to be crappy people personally.

He brought 2 rings to Minnesota so I put Kirby at the top. Carew is right there with him.

Career WAR:

Killebrew 60.4 (2435 games)
Carew 81.3 (2469 games)
Olivia 43.1 (1676 games)
Puckett 51.1 (1783 games)

Interest..........

I've always heard he was nice during his playing days but after he pre-mature retirement, he turned into a raging prick.

Olivia's numbers are misleading because of the knee issues over the last 1/2 of his career.

(And if you are going to use WAR, shouldn't Mauer be up there?)

Did Hrbek have anything to do with those 2 WS titles?
(It wasn't just Pucket)
