The bullpen will cost this team.....

Post by DC4MVP »

Just like the Vikings and their offensive line the past 5 years, the Twins passed up a couple top-tier relievers and went with some bargain bin cheap arms.

Ryne Harper....30 year old with a MiLB contract popping his big league cherry ($555k)

Trevor Hildenberger....side arm gimmick pitcher that's serviceable ($572k)

Adalberto Mejia....Meh. Decent to Serviceable ($560k)

Trevor May.....failed starter that turned into a decent pen option ($900k)

Blake Parker.....who? ($1.8 mil)

Martin Perez.....Might make it to the rotation. ($3.5 mil)

Taylor Rogers....Easily our best reliever but not quite a true closer. A 2 or 3 guy in most pens ($1.5)

Andrew Vasquez.....LOL (???)

De Jong.....LOL ($528k)

$6.4 million spent on 8 bullpen arms (not counting Perez)

They went cheap and ended up with this garbage.

This doesn't even include the rotation....

Most bullpen pitchers are failed starters. You forgot to include the most expensive bullpen arm playing in the minors right now. I think the bullpen would be ok if they had a true closer. Everyone moves down a spot and your not using your worst guys in high leverage spots. That being said, Odorizzo better start pitching better or he's going to kill the pen.

he hadn't given up a hit going into the 5th-and only did give up one. his big sin was walking the pitcher with two outs. with hindsight being 20-20 rocco should have left him out there to see if he could have gotten that last out. rocco made moves yesterday that turned out to be the wrong ones. he's learning too. tough decision to leave the starter out there-but he should have. or found the reliever who could have gotten that out.

again in looking back-that situation was so big that he should have brought out one of his best to get out of it if he was going to pull odorizzi. it would have given him the best shot to win the game.

The fact that Martin Perez might make it to the starting rotation kills the team.

Martin Perez was an awful signing.

He is sooo bad and always has been. It doesn't matter if he's in the rotation, or trying to fit in as a long man, he's an absolute waste of 3.5 million. Eating the money, letting him go would be addition by subtraction.

Other than that, I think the bullpen is better than it has been the last few years.

It's a tough spot. They have 39 games in 40 days so he needs to use everybody. The problem is Mejia is starter/long relief guy. He should be in the minors but he is out of options. It will be interesting to see what they do regarding the bullpen. It will most likely make or break their season.

Cripes. I had no idea they went this cheap. I knew the BP was garbage but that is just plain awful!

The loss tonight is more on the lineup Rocco put out there.

He's an idiot.

It sounds like Kimbrel lowered his demands a bit but also is close to signing with an unknown team. Very unlikely the Twins but man, they should have signed him.

Hopefully Romero can get to the club sooner rather than later and contribute.

Maybe we can package a couple prospects as well to snag a good arm from a rebuilding team. We have a fairly deep system that I don't think we would have to part with any of our top guys to get some interest.

I don't want to hit the panic button yet but they need to at least have some plans in the works.

Ryne Harper . . . last night . . . . I thought to myself who is this guy.

May's line last night: .2 ip, 1 hit, 2 earned runs, 2 walks, 2 K's. He was poop last night.

Kimbrel would help anchor the back end. The polads are cheap as hell so I doubt that happens.

Bullpen help is the cheapest and easiest thing to add. Hopefully Reed, Romero, and Magill can all provide some much needed boosts at some point, too. Moya would also be a solid 2nd lefty specialist.

I was a big Reed supporter last year.....but something is going on there..
He isn't doing much in Florida...
And his injury is on a finger.....on his non-throwing hand.

I'm pretty comfortable with Rogers, May, Hildy....
beyond that? It gets shaky.
