Nelson Cruz
The Minnesota Twins have entered the Nelson Cruz sweepstakes, according to Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports.
Minnesota is evidently looking to add power after hitting just 166 homers last season. The team has already made one move to address this weakness by claiming first baseman C.J. Cron off waivers in November.
Cruz is a strict designated hitter at this stage of his career, as he's only played nine games in the outfield over the past two seasons combined and has never been considered a good defender. He remains a feared presence at the plate; last year, the 38-year-old slashed .256/.342/.509 with 37 home runs - the fifth straight year he's surpassed the 30-homer mark - and 97 RBIs in 144 games for the Seattle Mariners. That production was enough to earn Cruz his sixth All-Star berth.
In Minnesota, Cruz would slot in as the everyday DH and bump Cron to first base full time, with Jake Cave moving to an outfield spot. Cruz could potentially form a lethal lineup trio alongside Cron and third baseman Miguel Sano, who the Twins are hoping can bounce back from a miserable 2018 season.
Cruz, a former home run champion who has won two Silver Sluggers, is also reportedly being pursued by the Rays, Houston Astros, and Chicago White Sox.

Sure... I would be happy with this. I'm not sure he'd choose MN over HOU though.Jimtown guy wrote: ↑Mon Dec 10, 2018 2:57 pm The Minnesota Twins have entered the Nelson Cruz sweepstakes, according to Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports.

Well, guess it wouldn't hurt. Kinda like getting Thome at the end of his career.

This is one move that might actually happen. The few times the Twins have signed anyone that anyone's heard of, it's always some guy they hope they can get a year out of before washed up.
If Cruz has anything left in the tank, he won't be playing here.

Re: Nelson Cruz
This is true, but not necessarily because the Twins won't pay a second tier FA fair market value. If he has anything left in the tank he won't be playing for the Twins because all things being equal, why the fuck would he or anyone even want to?Sergeant Rubetube wrote: ↑Mon Dec 10, 2018 5:39 pm This is one move that might actually happen. He's 38 and has one good year left in him. Will likely cost a 2 year deal to get him.

That should be our plan. Hot step up year from the youth you keep them and win. Out of it get some prospects at the deadline. It's where we are right now.

Isn't Kendrys Morales still tearin' it up in The Show? Remember when the Twins had him for a hot minute? Reminds me of Cruz for some reason.

Nelson Cruz timeline in 2019:
-Declines a bit but still on pace to be productive with around 33 HRs.....78 RBI
-Becomes a fan favorite because of his power and personality
-Twins aren't in contention come July
-Twins trade Cruz near deadline for 2nd and/or 3rd rate prospects
Think Fernando Rodney all over again
