So much negativity in here. The Twins just signed a guy who averaged 41 HR per season over the last 5, and people are worried about what it means for Tyler Austin, who can't get on base and has no position flexibility.

This team needs the young players to take a step forward to succeed. Theres no question about that. However, this move, along with the next 2 or 3 this one indicates they're likely to make, sets them up for success if that does happen. They're still probably going to get two BP arms, and maybe another starter. This is a good signing that doesn't hurt their long term flexibility.

In theory, this will help Sano the most. He'll have a true threat hitting behind him in the lineup. Which will give him better pitches to look at.

I am hopeful he gets damp to take the game seriously and maximize his huge potential. Protection in the line up is a nice secondary benefit.
