I'm hearing the Twins were offering 10 years $290 and they were in it till the end but he wanted to play in a warm place.

Yep. At 12:32. You posted the contract value at 12:41. A full 9 minutes after me.

Get with it, loser. Maybe stick to basketball. Let the big boys handle the baseball stuff, kiddo.

My sources are telling me the same thing. Also a potion of that $290 would have come from him selling concessions during non twins events at target field

What are your sources saying on our pursuit of Cobb? I still think he'd be a great fit in our tool hole. Tight, snug.. like a glove.

Good for Machado.

Warm climate, no pressure to win, and gets paid $30mil/per. Gotta like that.

Growing up an Orioles fan and following them casually at best these days, I'm just happy he didn't go to some team I fucking hate.

Good point. I'm really hoping Harper doesn't go to the White Sox and lands in Philly where I don't have to care.

No pressure right now. Padres farm system is loaded. In a couple years, expectations will be sky high.

Going from a very friendly hitters park to a very friendly pitchers park will hurt his numbers:

2018
Home: .329, 24 HR, 54 RBI, 1.018 OPS
Away: .272, 13 HR, 53 RBI, .793 OPS

Plus he will likely be playing 3B not SS.

Just read an article where Teixera explains why this is going on...basically he explains a post-steroid era of baseball where these players are who they are now. They won't be getting better going into their 30's, so teams arent willing to hand over the dough for long term contracts.
As Machado gets 10 year's 300 million and Harper is about to get even more.

Yeah, was kind of surprised by that, considering it took so long.

Machado has been more consistently great compared to Harper. Harper had one fairly historic year but otherwise he's been an All-Star-ish player, not much more than that.

Why can a small market team like the Padres sign Machado? They are not completely out now on Harper either.

Meanwhile the panhandling Pohlads, won't sign anyone.

I have no idea how well the Padres' farm system is stocked, but they were garbage last year. At the moment it seems like a "sell tickets" move (an expensive one). If it pans out for them then you have a point, but this will backfire if they don't have any supporting talent coming through. Not to excuse the Twins' approach, but I don't think this move proves the Twins wrong.

I like that. Panhandling Pohlads.
It's been 32 years since one of MN's four major sports teams has been to the Championship/Superbowl.
Every single year is failure until we win one. 4 teams, 32 years. That's roughly 128 consecutive failed seasons.

The Panhandling Pohlads are done with free agency.

That's a pretty good deal for Philly. The last few years might be rough but Harper requested no op-outs in the deal.

If you look at this from luxury tax deal it's a great one for Philly.

Just wait until Trout hits the market. He's twice (maybe three times) the player Harper is and will shatter this contract.

Is it true that it was less per year than what the Nationals offered?

Nationals offered 10 years 300 million but I read they were willing to offer more but Harper just wanted out of DC.

Machado got more per year.
