Suppose he'll use the Twins' Ol' Reliable :
"I was injured last year, but didnt want to let my team down, so I played through it and statistically, had a down year because of it. This year I'm going to play with a chip on my shoulder and prove to everyone I'm the same All-Star, 2B I was four years ago".

Combine attitude and stuff, and Trevor May is the choice as Twins closer; however, he will be used for some two-inning saves and will need an assistant closer.- Patrick Reusse

How much payroll are the twins going to cut this? With out looking I bet starting 2018 vs 2019 will be 20 million less.

Liriano always has flawed mechanics that led to that elbow injury, I don’t think it’s the same as Prior.jakazz30 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 9:31 pmTrue....Sidewinder2k2 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 8:24 pmThe ultimate "what might have been?" pitcher.jakazz30 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 3:56 pm At least the Twins didn't do this...

I place a lot of blame last season on Big Erv. Wtf, man?
In early February last year, he got surgery and was expected to be back late April or May. The Twins 'Ace' didn't return until late July.
Of course, because of that the Twins got Odorizzi and Lynn, but together they didnt equal Santana's production from his '17 campaign. Then when he did come back, he sucked.
Why wait until Feb to decide on surgery. Pissed me off.

Re: 2018-19 Hot Stove thread
Gio Gonzalez, Dallas Keuchel, Craig Kimbrel still all out there. Would love any one of these on a one year deal. Gio and Dallas have some big red flags that will keep them from a huge, multi-year payday, which is what still has them on the market. The flags being that they let runners on base, a big no-no for the advanced stats age, but their bottom line is usually pretty good, and they get the job done. No long term deal, but a 1 or 2 year would be a nice low risk move.
Kimbrel isn't playing the market too well right now. He wants 5-6 years, while he could likely get a 3 year deal easily right now. He's threatening to sit out all year, but if he does that, he'll likely never get that multi-year contract, and will be playing his career year to year. It would be wise for him to sign a contract very soon and play this full season, which would be his best bet at a multi-year contract. Twins could offer a boat load of money on a one year deal, and if he dominates again, then maybe that 5 year deal will come to him. Twins and Craig could both use each other, where the Twins who could never imagine landing an FA of his caliber, do for at least a year. And then he in turn could use the Twins to prove once again that he is the games top closer, and receive a giant contract on par with the likes of Chapman.

I thought after last year, the Twins were trying to avoid all the one year deals? Apparently they harm the clubhouse vibe.bubu dubu. wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 11:04 pm Gio Gonzalez, Dallas Keuchel, Craig Kimbrel still all out there. Would love any one of these on a one year deal. I want DK. He's not as good as he once was, but he's a bonafide Ace, Cy Young and World Series Champion. He would be the best pitcher the Twins have had since Santana. His leadership to the young pitchers is worth his flaws.

That was bullshit. He knew he was hurt in October 2017 after he pissed away that game to the Yankees. He just was in complete denial.Tommy_Hawk wrote: ↑Fri Feb 22, 2019 10:08 pmI place a lot of blame last season on Big Erv. Wtf, man?

Its really hard to understand why...as far as I know...Craig Kimbrel hasn't received even an offer yet......from anyone.
At this point I'm sure he'd take a really decent 1 year offer. (His value isn't going to improve on the couch)
Edit:
If he doesn't have the confidence that he'll be solid enough in 2019 to be able to try FA again for '20+...then the team's are right in not wanting to sign him long-term.

His drop on velocity and higher walk rate last year must be scaring teams.jakazz30 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 6:04 pm Its really hard to understand why...as far as I know...Craig Kimbrel hasn't received even an offer yet......from anyone.

Gio to the Yankees on a minor league deal for obvious Severino/Tanaka insurance.

I'm surprised he didn't want chase a championship elsewhere. Angels aren't getting there IMO.

He's not your normal superstar. He's comfortable in his situation and does not like any extra attention. He announces an extension right before March Madness on a Tuesday morning.Small Hands wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 10:23 amI'm surprised he didn't want chase a championship elsewhere. I believe there's very reachable incentives that could boost his contract to $12 million.Sidewinder2k2 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 2:42 pmI can't understand how some team couldn't top that for him.RALPH MALPH wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 8:12 am3 mil seems like a decent insurance policySidewinder2k2 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 10:49 pm Gio to the Yankees on a minor league deal for obvious Severino/Tanaka insurance.

I'm just saying if I'm him...I let it be known I'll take a 1 year deal.
Otherwise he might never get an offer.
