No one really knows how the concussions and catching wear and tear derailed his career. I personally believe it robbed him of some of his best years. The guy could roll out of bed and hit. It's sad to see Puckett and Mauer's careers not reach their natural finish.

Never change Twins fans! That's why you have had a shit franchise for decades.

The comments in here are great! "Oh gee golly, he was such a good man"

I can't say I blame ya. This is the average Twins fans way of thinking. You have been brain washed. Hey, maybe he will still tour in the caravan and you can eat a dilly bar with him in Osseo with Sister Agnes.

I would rather this guy be a complete shit bag and won some ball games. That is the reason any of us even pay attention to him after all. I really don't care what kind of a "Guy he is"

Sad thing is, either do you. Most of you probably thought the same about Kirby.

Definitely cashed in at the right time, had his best year in a contract year, and if he played anywhere else but MN there would be rumors of PED's (I believe he did for the record). After that, all downhill.

According to FanGraphs valuation system the Twins paid him $218,025,000 and he repaid the organization with $307,700,000 in value.

Interesting.
I've seen this stat thrown out throughout the years, that he has brought more value in, than his production. Of course that value is heavily weighted by the catcher years, where he was being paid as a middle of the road player, but was one of the best players in baseball, including an MVP season. I would like to see his net value since the giant contract.

Of course you can't just dismiss the early years. They were outstanding (in the regular season), but its just so heavily weighed this system to that side.

Is Joe Mauer a Hall of Famer? How about this:

2,000+ hits, 3 batting titles, .300+ AVG, .390+ OBP, .800+ OPS

Cobb
Gwynn
Hornsby
Musial
Wagner
Carew
Williams
Boggs
Mauer

Any more questions?

How many more hits did those other players have?
I don't think they stopped at 2000.

58 RBI
67 runs

Meh - average at best I'd say

I might be mistaken , but I believe he was an under .300 hitter outside of Dome where he got those 18 Hoppers through the cement like infield. Meh
Those numbers are fine as a catcher. Not sure what his career BA is but he was a really, really good player there when he first broke in. His 30s have been rough and they're as a first basemen. Still seemed to have good numbers with runners in scoring position.
One of the things I try to point out.....(usually to Clark) but seems to get ignored..
If you want to maintain that the LBJ is a certain HoFr,
then Posey must be one also.

Numbers wise....he's been more consistent.
(And even BA is identical for the career)

Did you read this entire article word for word?

You savage some of us for saying that we don't think Mauer is going to get into the baseball HOF, which of course doesn't necessarily mean we hope that he doesn't and then you post a link to an article in which Gleeman talks about his HOF credentials and essentially reaches the exact same conclusion and you come here to brag about it?
Mauer had a Hall of Fame-caliber career, but my sense is that the voters will not be as enthusiastic about his case as JAWS and other numbers-based looks suggest. I’d love to be proven wrong, of course, but Mauer’s induction would require viewing him as a catcher, or at least mostly as a catcher, and by the time he’s actually on the ballot it will have been 10 years since anyone saw him behind the plate.
This is what I have been saying for years and you laugh at me everytime. Either Gleeman and I are both idiots or deserve praise, which is it?

I'm with you. I dont think Mauer deserves HOF. Injuries prevented him from having a HOF career behind the plate, and that happens sometimes.

Molina-Posey, both guys who will get in as catchers before Joe, IMO. Both have rings, both are better leaders.

Salvador Perez might also get in before Mauer.
