Nico was the undrafted college free agent they signed at the very end of the season. He got in a game or two I think. Solid well rounded player, but doesn't really project to be a high end player on the offensive side of things.

Pateryn is a solid 5-6 type defenseman. Nice to have some depth at the position.

I guess I should have mentioned that he is a Center, which of course the Wild are always lacking depth at so that automatically makes him a bit more valuable than he otherwise would be.

Has there been an update on Mikko? Thought it was gonna be a short term thing....

Moved him to the IR so I guess it's gonna be at least a week. Still doesn't sound too serious though as far as I can tell.

Pateryn is not ready to contribute. He was recalled from Iowa but immediately placed on IR along with Mikko.

I'd like him over Seeler right now if he was the same player as last year.

Following a very good 2016-2017 season in the MHL (Russian Junior Hockey League) where he recorded 22 points in 29 games played with Irbis Kazan, Alexander Khovanov started to gain steam as a top prospect in the hockey world.

Encouraging report and looks like the Wild will have a couple top notch Russians in their lineup sooner than later. If Guerin can pull off a good trade or two and have a decent couple of drafts, this Wild team could look completely different in a few years with a boatload of talent!

Good to hear. The Q league is a notoriously high scoring league, but averaging two points a game is still pretty damn impressive.

The Athletic rated the Wild prospects as the 14th best in the league. I was surprised it was that high.
Kaprizov, Boldy, Khovanov were considered likely first 2 line guys.
Firstov, Henges, Beckman, Menell all considered to have a chance to be long-time NHLers.
The next tier of talent was: Warren, Lodnia, Jones, McBain, Lindberg.
Johannson and Sokolov were in the next group. The evaluator thought that it's what's between the ears that is holding Sokolov back more than his conditioning.

Interesting, thanks for passing this information along. Sokolov seems to be classic high risk high reward type of player. In other words, if he can't create offense expected from a top six forward there are limitations in his game that will likely prevent him from being a role player. If he's got issues between the ears, that certainly isn't going to help matters unless/until he gets those ironed out.

If Guerin is serious about making the playoffs (and he's adamant that he is) he better get Mayhew up here. For those of you not in the loop, the undrafted winger is leading the AHL in goals and will almost for sure get to 40 in he plays out the season in Iowa.

I think all GM's would say they want to make the playoffs even if they know it isn't going to happen. Guerin is using these last 6 weeks as auditions for his 2020-21 team. It has been made know to the players that they will be held accountable for giving maximum effort finishing up the season and if Guerin doesn't think he's getting it then players will be shipped out (except Ryan and Zach!).

I LOVE Guerin's no non-sense approach and although I'm not predicting a Cup run anytime soon, I am convinced he'll make the changes necessary to fix the culture around St. Paul!

FIRST STAR - KEVIN FIALA, LW, MINNESOTA WILD

Fiala had four multi-point games to lead the NHL in goals (4; tied) and points (4-5-9), pacing the Wild (32-26-7, 71 points) to a 3-1-0 record and within one point of a playoff spot. He had 1-1-2, including the winning goal, Feb. 25 in a 5-4 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. He then posted 1-2-3 in a 7-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Feb. 27 followed by another 1-1-2 outing versus Columbus, in a 5-0 triumph Feb. 28. He closed the week with 1-1-2 in a 4-3 loss to the Washington Capitals on March 1 to become the third player in club history with multiple points in four straight games, joining Marian Gaborik (2006-07 & 2007-08) and Brian Rolston (2005-06) who had equal runs. Fiala is the 19th player to achieve that feat in 2019-20, with only Leon Draisaitl and Nikita Kucherov extending to five games. Fiala, 23, a native of St. Gallen, Switzerland, was selected 11th overall by Nashville in the 2014 NHL Draft. In his second season with the Wild, he leads the team with a career-high 49 points in 60 games (20-29-49).

I assume that will be on the table this offseason, although as a RFA they could probably wait another year. He might be really expensive by then.

Considering this franchise has existed now for about 20 years that is pretty damn impressive. Fiala was always known as a streaky player when he was with Nashville, but appeared to possibly be rounding into form during the 17-18 season when a catastrophic leg injury ended his season in the playoffs. The following season (last season) he wasn't very good with them or us and some including myself thought that either he was simply riding a hot streak when the leg injury occurred or that he just wasn't the same after the injury (and might never be again). I think it's safe to say that whatever we are seeing now is more than a hot streak, but just how good he is is still up in the air. Having said all that, he'll get paid and we'll have the money to do it. Personally, I'd try to get it done this offseason rather than next as he'll obviously command more money if he keeps up this pace into and through next season.
