Started this thread as a joke, no unfortunately may be the best option for us, although no GM in the league should be dumb enough to do it..

I think the Broncos did this with Osweiler to Cleveland a few years back. Our antivenom pill.

Considering we don't have a 2021 2nd rd pick, that will be a difficult trade to pull off. Not to mention, ah yea, it being ridiculous and stuff.

PS RS would require two 7th rd picks over a 6th.

Wishful thinking. Why in earth would this happen? And who would we have play QB?

Could we trade straight up for Tom Brady?

If we could get a first for Cousins it would save this entire organization. Package that first with our other one and maybe a future one to move to the top of the draft. You know we won't tank. We will be just bad enough to pick like #3 and then take a corner or some overrated lineman.

I would trade Cousins for a 7th rounder if it would free us of his contract. This season is done anyway. Just start Mannion and try to lose it all.

Maybe someone will lose their starter and get desperate like we were when we traded the farm for Bradford?

Trade a massively overpaid QB to a team that just drafted their franchise. Sounds like a bold move. I like it!

If we're going along with this, it's actually a young team using cap space in order to acquire a premium asset.

Which part is the premium asset?

And if we're going to go along with this, the Jets would make more sense since their QB sucks. Although they're in the running for Lawrence too.

2nd rd draft pick is still a pretty nice asset.
Disregard for now the fact that we don't even own our 2nd rd pick next year. This isn't my thread so I'm just going along with it, but in this scenario a team that doesn't even want to play Cousins could still be interested just to get the pick.

Can we also trade Cook and Everson Griffin to the Cowboys for Everson Griffin and a sheet of acid? Maybe they throw in a couple extra Griffins?

Would the 49ers be willing to do something like:

After this season -

Cousins, our 2021 3rd (should be early) and 2020 2nd for a 7th.

Effectively, you are paying a 3rd and 2nd to get that much cap of our books and they would cut JimmyG (small dead cap for them 2.8) and effectively pay that money (and a little more) to Cousins.

Simply, it's basically selling a 3rd and 2nd for cash/cap space. Would a team like the 49ers who see Kirk as a slight upgrade to JimmyG see that as a worthwhile cost for some relatively high draft picks?

Yes. Niners and Rams would LOVE to have Kirk.

Better deal him before GB puts Rodgers on the market.

Obviously they wouldn’t love to have Kirk. I’m asking if giving them to relatively high draft picks, gets them past their qualms.

Oh bro o read that wrong. We would not have to attach picks. We will be the one getting picks.

Kirks is worth a 2nd rounder EASY.

Doesn't he have a no trade clause though?

Apparently the OP agrees:

Original - Vikes trade Cousins And 2021 2nd to Bengals for 6th round pick

New edit - Vikes trade Cousins And 2022 2nd and 3rd to SF for 6th round pick

I think a better trade would be Bisi Johnson and a 6th for Deandre Hopkins! Then we'll trade Samia for 3 1st rounders.

Bisi trade does nothing for our cap issues since he signed a 4 year deal at $648K/yr - please try to stay on topic.

The title got changed to the Jags. That alone is dumb as they are in full rebuild. The Bengals would be absurdly stupid as they just drafted their franchise QB and he looks like the real deal.

Kirk Cousins cannot be traded! The cap hit is too high for at least this year and next! People need to get this through their heads!!!

Are we sure on that?
If we trade him, his 2021 base salary is paid by the new team. That $21M should hit their cap, right?

That would mean the only thing that would hit our cap is the other portion of the signing bonus that we paid out that hasn't hit our books yet, which is $20M. Thus I calculate the cap hit for us at $20M if we trade him, not the entire $41M that we would take on if we cut him.

$20M dead cap hit is affordable for one season.

Is that right?

On the roster next year he’s a $31M cap hit w/ $21M in real new money paid out
Traded next year he’s a $20M cap hit w/ $0 in real new money paid out.

It’s still the better option.
