Why not have our #2 QB be the holder. If it's a bad snap or they want to get tricky, do a madden style fake kick with the backup QB..Ash Ketchum wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 5:47 pm It would be unwise for the Vikings to have Vedvik be BOTH the kicker and punter if you’re not also going to roster a full-time holder.

I saw comments from a few days back with Ravens fans begging not to trade this guy and if they do trade him, they better get a 4th rounder or better.
Ravens radio said he's "Just a guy"

Tucker is almost HOF.
They had an asset and held onto him for trade value.
I hate kickers but you have to see how this could be a good get. BAL would never hold onto a kicker if they didn't think he'd be of value. They knew they found a "diamond in the rough." They held onto him because they knew he was good. No lose when your grab a guy that can play 2 positions.

This year? Zero percent.
Next year and beyond? 35%
Next year as FG kicker only? 75%

I don’t know. I worry about having one kicker. Kickers don’t get hurt a lot, but if they do, it’s nice to have the other. Also, who does the holding? A position player? Now you’re really risking a guy in the “battery” going down to injury.Sergeant Rubetube wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 7:24 pmThis year? Zero percent.

It’s a great theory. Save a roster spot. Kicking is kicking, right? But there are reasons teams don’t do it.

Im thinking the chances are better than that. The Vikings spent a 5th rounder on him to be on our roster.Sergeant Rubetube wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 7:24 pmThis year? Zero percent.

Vedvik will really have to choke not to be here. And both our kicker and punter are both below average.

I never said he won't be here. I think he is our future kicker. I just don't know if they will want him focusing on doing both and I'm not sure if they will keep Bailey this year.witljon wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 8:11 pmIm thinking the chances are better than that. I definitely agree our punter is nothing special. Bailey can be good but he hasn't been lately.

He'll be doing nothing but kicking extra points and kicking off in this dynamic offense. TD every drive!

Have him do both, make Sloter be the holder, spend the extra roster spot on another CB.

Vikes would have been in a decent position had they just stuck with Carlson. I kind of get Zimmer's impatience with him, as that team was supposed to be one of the top 5 or so contenders going into last year, but they made a mistake. I know nothing about this Kaare guy, but it seems like he was a hot commodity that had a lot of interest. Hopefully he shores everything up for the kicking game.
There seems to be some small seeds of a new age kicker that does both kicking and punting. Maybe this guy carries the torch for that movement? I'm guessing right now, he was brought in to replace Bailey, not Wile. I don't think the Vikes trade for him, had he not gone 6/6 on his kicks in his last game.

As it stands now, we will have a compensatory 3rd round pick and maybe 3 7ths. Trader Rick will add a 5th somewhere with some trade.witljon wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 8:11 pmIm thinking the chances are better than that. Mechanics seem okay to me, but I haven’t watched much of his NFL attempts.Tony Bongwater wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 5:57 pm I'm not comfortable putting the entire kicking game in this kids hands (feet) I love the potential, but if you look at the tape, hes got inconsistent mechanics. But I'm worried.

Because in the event that the #2 QB becomes the #1 QB, you’re immediately forced to change holders.Rusty Kuntz wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 6:36 pmWhy not have our #2 QB be the holder. The reason the holder is usually the punter is because that way, your field goal specialists (the holder, snapper and kicker) can work together a lot and get a ton more reps than they could if the holder was someone who also needed to practice with the offense or defense.

It isn’t even so much the injury risk. Putting a position player at holder pretty much ensures that the field goal specialists won’t get as many reps during the week as they would if they had a punter as the holder.Beef Supreme wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 7:34 pmI don’t know. Re: Kaare Vedvik
It is my understanding that when it has been attempted in the past, a Kicker/Punter destroys his leg doing both. Think about it, you can't practice both 50% of the time and be successful at the NFL level... so you have to practice both 100% of the time. Before games, you have to warm up by both kicking punts and field goals. It is a lot of kicking.
My hunch is that he is going to be the new Punter and be the guy that kicks FG's over 51 yards.

Atl tried it with him to start one year and missed a lot of FGs so they had to bring back Morten Andersen. He stayed on to remain a decent punter.

I personally think punting takes way fewer reps and that Vedvik could handle doing both, but I agree that he probably won’t end up doing both as the starter in part because of that.
